Temenos – Company

At Temenos we believe that our people make the difference. What we create and achieve is a result of the aspirations and goals of the 4000+ unique individuals that make up Temenos today.

Our people drive real change, and working together as a team is what got us to where we are today.

In an effort to recognize and celebrate our talented colleagues, we’d like to share some of their inspirational stories, where they takes us along their journey before and after joining Temenos.

1. Tell us about your role: When did you join Temenos?

I joined Temenos India at our Chennai office in December 2006 as a Trainee Technical Consultant. Can’t believe it has been over a decade!

2. What is your position in the company and how would you describe it in one phrase?

I am currently working as a Senior Business Solutions Group Consultant in our UK office. In a nutshell, I work on some of our most exciting offerings around our Digital Transformation solutions to enhance the value we bring to our clients by offering them a fully integrated, end-to-end solution for the future.

3. How did your career journey look before Temenos?

I started my career at Temenos – it was my first job and now, 11 years later, still is! I was fresh out of university, holding a Masters in Computer Application (MCA) and a BSc in Physics from the University of Calcutta. Temenos was my career Launchpad.

What attracted you to Temenos?

To be honest, I did not know much about Temenos prior to joining. The first thing that attracted me to Temenos was the fact that it was a banking software product company. It is a specialist, and this meant that it would offer me the opportunity to become a banking expert, no matter what role I chose. The opportunity to work for a specialist rather than a generic IT services company was a very attractive proposition, which steered me in the right direction.

4. Tell us about your journey within Temenos:

What was you first role here?

When I joined Temenos, I was a Trainee Technical Consultant.

How did you progress from that? What motivated you?

The great thing about working for Temenos is the opportunity to try new things and explore your potential. After spending a couple of years as a Technical Consultant, I was given the opportunity to change my role and move to the UK as a Business Consultant. I always look for new challenges and enjoy having more responsibility, which is encouraged here. I was lucky enough to receive support from the management team, who helped me realize my dream and empowered me with growth opportunities.

Did you have a mentor when you started your journey in Temenos? If so, tell us a bit about that.

I had many mentors across the organization, but the one person who made a lasting impression on me was Ramanujan Kannan. I think I was very lucky to work with him. He was a great coach, guide and a personal role model at the time. When you join a company, especially as a trainee, it is so important to find the right people who can help you navigate the organization, teach you valuable career lessons and lay the foundations for success in your professional life.

5. Tell us about yourself – what are you passionate about? Who are you at home?

I am passionate about cricket like most Indians and then football – I support Chelsea FC. I feel extremely lucky to have my wife and an 18 months old son Vivaan – my dream is that someday he will play for Chelsea.

Playing and watching cricket and football help me to stay relaxed after a busy week; in a way, it helps me keep a balance between work and personal life. Sports is a great way to rejuvenate and stay fit – it also has several parallels to the world of business!

7. When you joined Temenos, what were your career aspirations/goals?

Just like most young professionals, I was ambitious. I wanted to become a top talent in the IT industry, and demonstrate my value to the company that believed in me. My motto in life is to do my best and give everything 100%, and then wait for the success, which is inevitable. You cannot control outcomes, but you can believe that the best intentions and inputs will always result in the best outcomes.

8. How do you think Temenos has helped you move forward in achieving your career goals so far?

There is a strong focus on career development at Temenos. Like I said earlier, you have the opportunity to be anyone you aspire to be, as long as you have the drive and determination. I discussed my short and long term goals every year with my manager and defined a clear set of activities to help me achieve them. As a Technical and Business Consultant, I interacted with clients face-to-face for 10 years. This exposure is invaluable and gears you up for future roles. Now I work in a Sales related role, which is a whole different ball game. The knowledge, experience and skills I gained across my previous roles has helped me develop to take on new challenges. The learning curve is huge in Temenos, offering me the “full package” in terms of career development.

9. What do you love about your job at Temenos? What motivates you every day?

Firstly, the people – I think here we make friends for life. Then of course the software stack, the products we develop. Temenos always takes care of its people and, from my point of view, we have quite a flexible working style.

Seeing our clients derive real business value from our software motivates me. That’s real validation that what I am doing is making a difference! Nothing makes me happier than seeing the satisfaction on the customer’s face.

10. What is the most important thing you’ve learned so far in Temenos?

“Invest in knowledge”.

11. What advice would you give to someone looking to take their career in Fintech to the next level?

Never make a decision based only on financial gain. Always work hard and smart and always have a long-term goal. Choose a company that specializes in a domain and offers you clear insight on the job you’re interested in, as well as what the career development plan looks like. Find mentors who will help you take your career to the next level, and always have an “obsession” for learning.
