GENEVA, Switzerland – January 20, 2020 – Temenos (SIX: TEMN), the banking software company, today announced its commitment to sustainable and carbon neutral events, following the successful delivery of TKO 2020, its biggest-ever internal kick-off meeting. The event, which took place on 11 – 16 January in Madrid, was in line with ISO 20121, ISO 14064 and PAS 2060 sustainability standards. This initiative forms part of Temenos’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy to measure, reduce and offset the negative environmental impact of its events and ensure business operations are conducted responsibly.

This year, Temenos aims to achieve ISO 20121 event sustainability certification for its two largest corporate events, TKO and Temenos Community Forum (TCF), which will take place in Madrid on 28 – 30 April 2020, following a rigorous off-site and on-site audit by an external certification body. ISO 20121 provides the framework for identifying the potentially negative social, economic and environmental impacts of events by removing or reducing them, and capitalizing on more positive impacts through improved planning and processes. In addition, Temenos will quantify and report the carbon footprint from all the emission sources of these events, based on ISO 14064-1, as well as achieve carbon neutrality for these events in accordance with PAS 2060:2014.

Aligning to these standards, Temenos continues to dedicate its resources to minimizing the negative environmental output of its events in the areas of waste, water, energy and air quality and by ensuring event vendors and suppliers are adhering to sustainable event best practices. Temenos is also working to improve the positive social and economic impacts of the events and optimize event planning and processes.

Kalliopi Chioti, Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility, Temenos, commented:

We recognise the importance of taking action on our material environmental impacts and support a precautionary approach to these impacts on our own initiative. We are thrilled that our biggest-ever TKO can be a sustainable, carbon neutral event. Operating responsibly is integral to Temenos’ culture and a key pillar of our business. Our passion and commitment to reducing the negative environmental impact of our events is growing and we are always seeking new ways to ensure that our business operates according to the highest sustainability standards. At Temenos, we continue to dedicate our resources to operating responsibly, with integrity and transparency and it is fantastic to see such incredible results as we kick-start 2020.”

Temenos uses its technology and resources to make a positive contribution to society through a dedicated and structured CSR program. In 2017, Temenos launched Adopt iT, which provides Indian schools and Universities with better IT equipment, training, mentoring and a better environment in which students can learn. In 2018, the company began rolling out an Environmental Management System across its offices, offsetting its business travel and enhancing its responsible procurement process. And, at Sibos 2019, Temenos showcased a state-of-the-art zero-waste and eco-friendly stand to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable event.

Temenos bases its CSR reporting on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. It has endorsed the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
