Temenos Awards Celebrate Banking Innovation in North Asia

Customer awards recognize the leaders, innovators and visionaries in banking from across the region

Held on October 12 in Tokyo, Japan, the Temenos Regional Forum 2023: North Asia brought together over 100 APAC banking professionals from Asia Pacific to discuss emerging trends in the market and the future of banking in the region.

At the event’s gala dinner, the following awards were announced, celebrating financial institutions from around the region who are leading the way in modernization, transformation and innovation.

Core Transformation Award – Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC)

A Temenos client since 2006, Japanese Megabank SMBC has used Temenos’ core banking platform to support its overseas business across 13 countries around APAC. This single hub, multi-country configuration allows SMBC to scale efficiently and cost-effectively support growth with the flexibility to meet the varying requirements of local products and regulations.

Digital Transformation Award – Next Commercial Bank (Next Bank)

Next Bank is a digital challenger bank headquartered in Taipei which provides innovative solutions and a user-friendly experience to its retail customers. Using Temenos’ composable banking platform, Next Bank managed to set up its core banking system in less than a year and is now able to launch new products quickly and scale easily as it grows its customer base.

Banking Innovation Award – Green Link Digital Bank

Supported by Temenos, Green Link Digital Bank successfully launched as Singapore’s first digital-only bank in 2022 and has grown significantly since then. Using Temenos product development frameworks, the bank has created compelling and relevant payments, lending and supply chain finance services to help SMEs access vital working capital and trade with local and international partners.

Banking Innovation Award – O-Bank

Originally founded as Industrial Bank of Taiwan in 1999, O-Bank became the first digital bank in Taiwan in 2017, aiming to deliver superior customer service at a lower cost than its competitors. Using Temenos, the bank was able to set up its core banking system within a year and saw a rapid take-up from customers, who are able to onboard themselves and originate products in less than 10 minutes.

Banking Scalability Award – E.SUN Bank

Taiwanese bank E.SUN is committed to being a leader in financial innovation and sustainability. The bank has partnered with Temenos since 2014, helping it to roll out overseas businesses at an aggressive pace. It now has a footprint in 9 countries and territories – Mainland China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Australia, Japan, US, Singapore and Hong Kong – enabled by Temenos’ scalable platform.

Customer Experience Award – The Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank (SCSB)

Established in 1915 but remaining at the forefront of the industry, SCSB has developed innovative products and services to meet customers’ needs, such as one-stop teller services, small-sum credit loans and only requiring $1 to open a savings account. These customer-centric financial products and services have helped SCSB to continue growing and become one of the largest private banks in China.

Customer Experience Award – Bank SinoPac

SinoPac is one of the most successful banks in Taiwan for digital account acquisition, having attracted 1.2 to 1.4 million users to its DAWHO account, which combines multiple product types in one app. Adding the Temenos digital banking solution in 2022, on top of the existing core platform, is delivering a complete end-to-end retail banking solution, which will enable an even more personalized, seamless experience for customers.
