Temenos Expands Corporate Social Responsibility Program to Promote Innovation and Digital Skills and Create Employment Opportunities for Indian University Students
Temenos’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Adopt iT, expands to provide scholarships and graduate employment opportunities for Indian university students
The extended program caters for both school and university students and incorporates the provision of reliable, renewable and affordable energy to promote IT adoption
GENEVA, Switzerland – December 13, 2019 – Temenos (SIX: TEMN), the banking software company, today announced it has extended its CSR initiative, Adopt iT, to deliver a scholarship program for students at Anna University in Chennai, India. Temenos will award need- and merit-based scholarships to qualifying 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students for the next three years and provide employment opportunities to outstanding scheme graduates.
As part of the program, Temenos has also provided Anna University with a fully equipped and sustainably-powered Innovation Lab. The lab will give students the opportunity to learn about the Fintech sector, partner with Temenos employee volunteers and provide opportunities to learn through hands-on experience. Temenos plans to expand the collaboration with Anna University to cover other areas and will continue to grow the Adopt-iT University program to reach other Higher Education institutions in Bangalore and Hyderabad, India.
Adopt iT is an ambitious and impactful program which uses Temenos’ technology and resources to enable social change by supporting disadvantaged local communities in India. Adopt iT aims to transform the lives of individuals in these communities by improving their work skills and capabilities, promoting gender equality and inclusive education for all and helping them access to finance, healthcare and jobs.
Since Adopt iT launched in 2017, Temenos has funded the construction of modern computer labs in five Indian schools and the refurbishment and separation of girls’ and boys’ restrooms in two schools to encourage girls to stay in education for longer. Most recently, Temenos facilitated the supply of sustainable and affordable energy to computer labs in two schools in Chennai and Bangalore. The labs themselves were funded and built by Temenos to provide effective learning environments, encourage the development of digital skills and create better employment prospects for students.
To date, the Temenos Adopt iT program has assisted nearly 8,300 students with IT equipment, training and mentoring, and by helping create safe, clean environments in which they can learn. In 2019 alone, Temenos employees have volunteered for more than 500 hours to teach and coach the Adopt iT students.
Max Chuard, CEO, Temenos, said:
“I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be involved in such a great program and excited that we are continuing to broaden its impact in India, a nation at the heart of Temenos’ product organization. Our vision is to find ways to engage with local communities, provide them with access to the benefits and opportunities technology creates and the skills to deploy it. In doing this, we aim to encourage innovation and sustainable economic growth. Adopt iT not only benefits individuals and communities outside our business, it reinforces our core values of operating responsibly and using our technology, expertise and resources for good within Temenos, inspiring many to dedicate their time to helping others. As we continue to bear witness to the positive impact of important CSR programs like Adopt iT, so our vision to make a measurable difference to people’s lives evolves.”
