Scaling for the Future: Temenos Benchmark Insights
Combining elastic scalability with sustainability, Temenos achieved new efficiency levels and global recognition in 2025.

What a year it’s been for sustainable innovation at Temenos.
We are proud to be named TIME’s fourth most sustainable company globally, reflecting our deep commitment to sustainability, and an ever-evolving priority for our clients.
Our commitment to sustainable banking certainly extends to our software and services. As such, we are delighted to unveil several efficiency and sustainability improvements directly from our engineering team in our annual Performance Benchmark, which has been running since 2019.
The benchmark provides deeper insights into the latest releases of the Temenos Banking Platform, helping banks to understand how they can take significant steps forward in improving transaction and processing scalability while also shrinking their carbon footprint.
Under real-world conditions, we assess a range of metrics such as transaction throughput, response times, elasticity, and hardware utilization to establish overall efficiency and sustainability data. These metrics have evolved since the benchmark’s inception to reflect the changing needs of banks.
In 2023, our headline result was the fact we hit a mind-boggling 150,000 transactions per second (TPS), demonstrating our platform’s ability to scale with rapidly accelerating needs as Tier-1 banks support expanding financial ecosystems. But in 2024 and 2025, we shifted our focus. Rather than pursuing higher TPS alone, we decided to concentrate on measuring tangible efficiency gains, particularly in terms of hardware usage and environmental impact.
This was an important shift as banks are under increasing pressure from regulators, investors, and customers to operate as sustainably and transparently as possible. Reducing carbon footprints not only helps to mitigate environmental impact, but the elastic scalability and efficient use of hardware that goes along with it also strengthens long-term resilience and operational performance. That’s why we’re committed to helping our clients minimize their impact, while continuously improving our own.
To measure year-on-year progress, we again simulated our Temenos SaaS Retail Enterprise Service on Microsoft Azure. We were pleased with the result for our end-to-end banking offering on SaaS: we processed more transactions using fewer computing resources, proving that smarter engineering and leaner architecture can drive both performance and sustainability.
This year’s benchmark also introduced AI workloads for the first time, reflecting the industry’s growing adoption of AI and the launch of Temenos FCM AI Agent, a proven compliance engine that uses advanced AI to reduce false positives and evaluate screening alerts in real time, augmenting human capabilities.
Even with this addition to the benchmark, we increased our TPS by 3.7% while using:
• 46.3% fewer application server cores
• 6.8% fewer database cores compared to 2024
These results were not only because of the ongoing efforts of the Temenos engineering teams, but also because we have been able to leverage our partners’ latest technology innovations. For example, the switch to Azure Cobalt 100 ARM processors contributed to over 40% efficiency gains compared to Intel x86 chips. For our clients, this will not only reduce infrastructure costs but also supports their sustainability goals.
Co-innovation with Microsoft Azure
Our partnership with Microsoft Azure goes far beyond hosting. It’s a strategic collaboration that blends Azure’s global scale and innovation with our industry-leading banking platform. Together, we empower banks to modernize confidently, knowing their technology stack is built for future demands, including their sustainability goals, and backed by two trusted leaders.
Our 2025 benchmark results reaffirm our commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint – and helping our clients do the same. As the industry embraces new innovations such as AI and smaller players scale, we remain passionate that high performance and sustainability can, and must, go hand in hand.
