For Temenos’s Global Head of Partner Marketing, Carina Ferreira, October is a time for action. Like so many of us, Carina’s life has been touched by cancer. Her mother, and several other close family members have fought the disease.

‘We can’t just sit idle…’

Breast Cancer Awareness month is a case in point. According to the World Health Organisation, 7.8 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer between 2015 and the end of 2020,making it the world’s most widespread cancer.

Carina Ferreira, Senior Partner Marketing Manager

Carina, who also Chairs the Women @ Temenos employee group, is part of a company-wide effort to make an impact. Alongside her committee and CSR colleagues, she’s organized a global fundraiser with local walks and runs. So far, 30 races and fundraisers have been completed all over the world. Sporting pink caps, Temenosians everywhere have turned out in support.  And Temenos is matching employee fundraising dollar for dollar.

“Women @ Temenos is here to help achieve gender equality and support women’s issues,” says Carina. “Breast cancer is the world’s most widespread cancer, and we all play a role in raising awareness and finding a cure.”

Carina asks for women and allies to be vigilant:

“I’m still surprised by the statistics, she says. For example, 40% of breast cancer diagnoses start with a woman feeling a lump. That shows how important self-exams are.”

Her top tips include:

1. Set up monthly reminders for breast self-exams (or remind your wife, mother, sister, etc.)
2. Don’t delay screenings and doctor appointments;
3. Donate, donate, donate! So much still needs to go into research and prevention.
