Database options

Temenos offers a unique solution on a number of databases. Each of our solutions are robust, efficient and widely used throughout the world. They are also certified by the database vendor. In providing this unique choice, Temenos gives customers the ability to fully utilise all existing or future database policies.

In 1999, Temenos acquired jBASE Software, enabling us to offer three clearly defined components. These can be linked with ease, or more importantly, delivered separately. Today we know these components as:

• The T24 ‘c’ Development and Runtime Suite – This enables the application business rules to be retained and maintained in one coherent environment regardless of database deployment.
• The T24 Direct Connect – This is the connectivity software that will connect the application to the chosen database. The data can be diverted to the database of choice without changing any of the application code at all.
• The jBASE database – A fully functional database management system which offers that extra option over the more industry accepted database engines.
  

There are currently four options available for T24 release R7 onwards:

IBM DB2

• IBM’s DB2 version 9.5 brings with it an array of business benefits to the T24/DB2 solution
• Many years of investment has resulted in PureXML featuring as a major technology in the fight for simplicity and integration
• DB2 provides the resilient infrastructure that banks can trust to manage and protect their mission critical information and keep their business running continuously
• IBM DB2, which has recently been benchmarked on a database of 50 million accounts, delivers a robust, scalable, and reliable information infrastructure that will enable T24 customers to operate in a truly non-stop environment
• The level of scalability and performance, achievable by banks today with TEMENOS T24 and DB2, translates into a lower overall cost of ownership and greater application flexibility
• DB2 offers a wide variety of autonomic features such as self-managing and self-tuning capabilities. These simplify many of the tasks associated with maintaining databases, enabling banks to manage, integrate, and analyse information from the widest variety of sources and gain a greater return on their investment.
  

Temenos and IBM continue to work together to continually protect the client’s investment in T24.

jBASE

The migration to T24 (from TEMENOS GLOBUS, T24’s predecessor core banking product) with the jBASE database is a relatively straightforward process, providing a high degree of compatibility with the existing UniVerse DBMS and jBASE. Temenos has in-house support teams to assist in the process. jBASE provides clients with extra speed and resilience over the existing DBMS. A move to jBASE opens up a number of options and offers the following advantages: 

• Temenos owns jBASE and therefore has full control over its destination and long term investment has been committed to the product
• jBASE is widely used across a number of industry sectors, including financial services and in mission critical environments, requiring 24X7 capability 
• More than 8,000 companies around the world run their mission critical applications on jBASE 
• Moving from UniVerse is simplified by the high degree of compatibility between UniVerse and jBASE 
• Re-training of technical staff is minimal because of the high degree of compatibility 
  A system based on jBASE is economical to maintain and manage 
• By implementing the jBASE transaction management facilities, any unplanned downtime is minimised and data security assured
  

jBASE is deployed at the majority of Temenos clients and with the new jBASE Non-Stop edition reaching maturity, the upgrade path for these users is a low risk option.

ORACLE

Ensuring T24 was delivered for those that prefer Oracle as their database was a high priority for Temenos. T24 was recently certified for Oracle 11g, which brings with it many business benefits for our clients including the opportunity to further enhance their infrastructure around T24. The benefits of taking the Oracle database option for T24 include:

Microsoft SQL SERVER

Temenos products have been delivered on the Windows platform since 1997.

Today we provide the T24 SQL SERVER solution which ensures our customers can run their business on a fully certified T24/SQL SRVER platform. This also means the wide range of Microsoft platforms and tools can be used to further enhance the T24 offering, allowing clients to chose their preferred way of operating.
